Sand Creek Memorial Pilgrimage
Date & Time
About This Event
Join East Denver Vineyard on July 31st for a day-long pilgrimage of remembrance, learning, and prayer as we journey to the site of the 1864 Sand Creek Massacre. We will begin at 10am at the History Colorado Center, where we will explore the historical context surrounding this tragic chapter in Colorado’s story. From there, we will travel together to the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site (3 hours away), arriving for guided reflection and learning on the land itself.
A special part of our pilgrimage will be hearing from an elder and descendant of the tribes impacted by the massacre, who will share history, wisdom, and perspectives often absent from traditional narratives. Throughout the day, we will practice attentive listening, prayer, and reflection as followers of Jesus seeking truth, reconciliation, and a deeper understanding of our shared history.
This pilgrimage is open to anyone seeking to learn, lament, and grow in the way of Christ through remembrance, justice, and peacemaking. Invite a friend who wants to learn with us. Note: you will need to pack a lunch and bring money for dinner.
